The AIPH Green City Guidelines present case studies from around the world to illustrate how the green city principles have successfully been implemented.
Each case study was prepared using documentation that was publicly available and interviews with key stakeholders. By consulting practitioners and authorities who were directly involved in the project, we present case studies with deeper insights into the motivation, delivery mechanisms, adoption challenges and broader learning. We consider the development of the project from the design and implementation stage, extracting insights into why it was successful, what was learnt during the project, and what influence it may have had on other projects and sustainability decisions and policies, locally, nationally, and internationally.
This collection is divided into four sections:
The ornamental horticulture industry makes a significant contribution to city greening initiatives. These case studies are are examples from around the world that demonstrate the increasingly influential role that the ornamental horticulture industry is playing in creating and maintaining green cities.
One case study is presented for each of the four landscape scales that were the focus of the 2020 AIPH Green City Guidelines.
Three case studies are presented to illustrate the interpretation of the green city principles in different climatic zones
Recognising that not all cities are the same, we present case studies in 3 different city typologies.
