Dutch King appoints new Agriculture Minister

THE HAGUE, Netherlands: King Willem-Alexander of the Netherlands has been pleased to approve the appointment of Mr Piet Adema as the Netherlands’ Minister of State at the Ministry of Agriculture.

Piet Adema, aged 58, succeeds Henk Staghouwer who resigned on 5 September, telling to reporters he wasn’t the right person for the job.

The Dutch agriculture sector has been in crisis since the government announced stricter measures to control nitrogene-based pollution, leading to massive farmer protests. Across the country, people have been hanging Dutch flags upside down along roads in an expression of support for the farmers.
