The Dutch Horticultural Entrepreneur Award Foundation today announced it has appointed Peter Maes, chief strategy officer at biocontrols firm Koppert, as its new chair.
The 59-year old Maes succeeds Michiel van Ginkel who fulfilled the job for six years.
The Dutch Horticultural Entrepreneur Award recognises progressive growers who embrace technology, modern and sustainable production practices, market innovation, strong customer service and demonstrate their position as an industry leader.
Peter Maes says, “It is vitally important for our sector to stay connected with industry peers, supply chain partners and society. Listening carefully to one and another is how we build strong bonds and earn each other’s trust. The horticultural sector has many compelling stories to tell in particular when it comes to sustainability and innovation. It makes a valuable contribution to the Dutch economy. The Dutch Horticultural Entrepreneur Award symbolises the value generated by our sector and how this can be relevant for the years to come.”
In recent years, ‘ornamental’ winners of the award automatically entered the International Grower of the Year contest at IPM Essen. At the time of publication, the foundation had not yet confirmed this.
