AIPH is proud to launch the second series of Green City Briefings, featuring world leading cities that demonstrate the power of plants. Last year the City of London Green City Briefings saw 100s of attendees from 50 different countries join AIPH’s vision for greener, more cohesive, and resilient cities. Each of this new series of Green City Briefings provides expert opinion, features successful city implementation, and generates an in-depth discussion.
Starting on Tuesday 13th September 2022, this year’s briefings are truly international, featuring winning cities from the AIPH World Green City Awards 2022. The aim of each themed webinar, featuring world renowned experts alongside global examples of best practice, is to link up knowledge and practice. The presentations are suitable for an audience of policymakers, urban planners, practitioners, and the interested general public. Sharing practitioners and researchers’ experiences of the many ways to enhance cityscapes through the power of plants is vital to bringing a global change. AIPH Green City is proud to be at the centre of creating this conversation.

The first webinar introduces Buenos Aires – a finalist in the Living Green for Social Cohesion category – and focuses on how habitat conservation strategies are integrated into urban development, with a particular focus on human and habitat vulnerabilities. Buenos Aires is the host city for the C40 Summit in October. In its commitment to climate solutions Buenos Aires has committed to halving its carbon emissions by 2030 and going fully carbon neutral by 2050. In this briefing we find out how Buenos Aires has accelerated its contribution to a better future for all, through innovative action that focuses on the integration of nature conservation in inclusive city planning.
The focus of this first briefing is on integrating conservation and inclusive city planning with expert talks from URBiNAT and Buenos Aires’ Housing Institute. URBiNAT is a research project that consists of a worldwide consortium of academic and business partners in 7 European cities. Researcher Nathalie Nune from URBiNAT will be discussing the development of guidelines for citizen engagement and the co-creation of nature-based solutions in the URBiNAT project. The city of Buenos Aires features in the second presentation, with speakers from the city’s Housing Institute demonstrating co-creation in practice. As showcased in their AIPH World Green City Award 2022 entry Buenos Aires, has accelerated its contribution to a better future for all, through innovative action that focuses on the integration of nature conservation in inclusive city planning. It demonstrates how greening operates in synergy with other city initiatives, and how conservation strategies are integrated into urban development with a particular focus on participatory and associative co-management that addresses vulnerabilities.
