The XVI National Day of the Mediterranean Nursery Stock Industry will focus on climate risk management

In association with Italy’s Home for Agricultural Knowledge CNPAPAL, Bari’s Order for Agronomists and Foresters (ODAF Bari), and Italy’s National Association for Agronomists CONAF, the National Association of Nursery Stock Exporters (ANVE), will host the XVI National Day of the Mediterranean Nursery Stock Industry. The venue of choice is the Mediterranean plant nursery, Vivai Capitanio, in Monopoli. The line-up for the one-day ‘Climate Risk Management’ themed conference on Saturday, 25 May 2024, is impressive.

ANVE, CONAF, CNPAPAL, and ODAF Bari representatives will kick off the conference with a welcome speech highlighting this year’s theme, ‘Climate risk management for the nursery stock industry’.

Agronomist Gianluca Buemi will act as the event’s moderator.

The keynote speaker is the climate scientist Antonio Frigioni. He will introduce the causes and consequences of climate change in the Mediterranean, highlighting the daunting challenge that climate change presents to our planet and its inhabitants.

Francesco Martella, director of CESAR, the Agency for Agricultural and Rural Development, will discuss the risk management tools available and the EU’s newest Common Agricultural Policy (CAP). Launched in 1962, the EU’s CAP is a partnership between agriculture and society and between Europe and its farmers.

Nilton Meoni, owner of insurance company AIB—All Insurance Broker, will discuss the figures and outlook for its 2024 campaign.

Cosimo Palasciano, president of BCC Alberobello, Sammichele, and Monopoli, will highlight the perks and challenges of risk management and access to funds.

Vivai Capitanio owner Leonardo Capitanio and the AIPH President will also discuss policy issues impacting the Italian horticulture industry.

The conference will conclude with announcing the winners of the annual Stefano Capitanio Graduating Awards.

Each year, ANVE invests money in graduate students and the research they are pursuing. The Stefano Capitanio Graduating Awards are in remembrance of ANVE’s late co-founder, Stefano Capitanio. They are intended to recognise and reward top-achieving horticultural students and encourage them to continue their studies.
