Welcome spring at Italy’s iconic Messer Tulipano show

Italy’s iconic tulip festival, generally known as Messer Tulipano, is fast approaching with the promise of an unrivalled tulip extravaganza in the gardens surrounding the medieval Pralormo castle in Piemonte.

On Friday, 24 March 2023, Messer Tulipano’s organisers, the Mayor of the city of Turin, Mr Stefano Lo Russo, the Mayor of Pralormo, Mr Mario Moschietto, and members of the press convened at Turin’s Palazzo dal Pozzo della Cisterna Park for a press conference where they discussed the 23rd edition of Messer Tulipano, which will be held between 1 April and 1 May 2023.

Messer Tulipano is arguably Italy’s largest tulip festival, featuring massive displays, a rare collection of daffodils, hyacinths and muscaris, family fun, and more.

Over 30 days each April, Messer Tulipano celebrates the start of spring as more than 100,000 tulips emerge in the castle’s historical park, designed by Xavier Kurten at the end of the XIX century.

In an unexpected act of kindness and generosity, Messer Tulipano’s founder, Countess Consolata Soleri Beruardo di Pralormo, donated thousands of tulip bulbs to the city of Turin, where they will soon bloom in the city’s Cisterna Park, which reopened this weekend after years of closure. People dressed in period costumes donning top hats, frock coats, bonnets and hooped skirts, and a marching band accentuated the park’s grand opening on Friday. Guests received an ‘Avalanche’ rose as a token of friendship, beauty and elegance.

For the occasion, Turin’s Mayor, Mr Lo Russo, expressed his gratitude to the Countess and her team for the thousands of tulip bulbs which will also adorn Turin’s, Piazza Emanuele Filiberto.

At the press conference, Beruardo announced the theme of the 2023 Messer Tulipano shows: ‘Floral Design’. The theme highlights the presence of today’s most dynamic designers of floral arrangements, gardens, and landscapes to visitors from predominantly Italy, Germany and France.

Visitors can expect artisan stalls with food, drink, shopping, and live entertainment.
