Top garden designer picks Wyevale Nurseries’ stock for RHS Malvern Spring Festival

Hedera Algerian Bellecour is ready to go to the Leaf Tropicana garden at the RHS Malvern Spring Festival.

Award-winning garden designer Peter Dowle has chosen plants from Wyevale Nurseries to feature in his show garden at RHS Malvern Spring Festival next week – including its new innovative Hedera Algerian Bellecour®.

Multi-gold medallist Peter, from Leaf Creative, who also founded Howle Hill Nursery, a landscape and design firm based near Ross-on-Wye, is creating the Leaf Tropicana garden at the show.

Ian Wright, commercial sales director at Wyevale Nurseries, explains: “We’re very excited that Peter has chosen to include a selection of our plants, more than 1,000 in total, in his show garden at Malvern. The garden sounds absolutely amazing. We understand it will include a 25-metre dome, lush greenery and the sound of cascading waterfalls.

“Included in the plants we’ve sent are several varieties of Agapanthus and Hosta, as well as ferns and grasses. There’s also Euonymus japonicus ‘Paloma Blanca’, Phormium ‘Platt’s Black’, Pittosporum tenuifolium ‘Tom Thumb’ and Astelia ‘Silver Shadow’, to name but a few.

“We’re delighted that our new ground cover ivy will showcase in the garden too. Hedera Algerian Bellecour® is exclusive to us and is really unique, as it doesn’t climb, so is a great low maintenance groundcover. It’s particularly useful to amenity and commercial landscape contractors and architects, as it remains in a juvenile form, so requires little to no care and is perfect for hard-to-reach areas. It can easily cover large areas in a carpet of foliage that’s evergreen.”

Under Peter’s leadership, Leaf Creative Gardens’ team has won numerous awards for its gardens – both for design and construction – including gold medals at RHS Chelsea, Hampton Court and Malvern, with several named Best in Show.

Peter and the Leaf Creative Gardens team have worked with many top designers such as Chris Beardshaw, Sarah Eberle and James Basson and Peter has featured in numerous magazine articles and appeared on BBC Gardeners’ World.

Howle Hill Nursery has opened Leaf Creative, a new plant centre in Huntley, Gloucestershire, which was created by Peter, to allow ‘gardening and landscaping expertise combine to create a funky, aspirational garden destination’.

Peter says: “It’s great to work with Wyevale Nurseries on this project and play with some of their exciting new introductions. I’m particularly excited about the Bellecour® ivy, which will feature as a bright, fresh splash of foliage in the ‘Jungle’ environment. I think it will become a Leaf Creative plant staple for the future.”

The Leaf Tropicana garden at RHS Malvern Spring Festival is described on the show website as having ‘glimmering pools of water and bridges that span the ponds offering stunning views of the surrounding vegetation, which will include an array of stunning houseplants, and towering trees.

“The experience will be heightened as you approach the tropical bar, where you will be able to indulge in a refreshing drink and feel a sense of tranquillity and calm. As you exit the dome, you won’t be able to help but feel invigorated and renewed, having experienced a true slice of paradise that has tantalised all of your senses.”

Wyevale’s main business is to supply garden centres, landscape contractors, local authorities, foresters and landowners with a comprehensive array of trees, shrubs, hedging, herbaceous and specimen plants.
