GreenTech Innovation & Concept Awards 2024 nominees announced

GreenTech’s 2023 award ceremony.

A ChatGPT-like digital assisant – trained on massive data and modelling on a natural language  to interpret the question, and a generative AI model to deliver the answer – that can help biological growers make more informed crop protection decisions, a fully automated grafting machine, an autonomous climate and irrigation control tool that reduces climate computer work by 80 per cent and water use by 10 per cent, and a growing medium made from compostable, biodegradable polymers that cleverly replicates the properties of peat are among those shortlisted. The winners will be announced during the opening day of the 8th GreenTech show at the RAI Amsterdam convention centre on Tuesday 11 June.

A panel of judges reviewed all of the 47 entries and selected six nominees. Potential winners are grouped into two categories: ‘Innovation’ and ‘Concept’. Jury chairman Egon Janssen explains how climate change and resource-efficiency influence the decision-making process.

He says,  “Due to climate change it becomes more important to secure the fresh food production at the lowest environmental footprint possible. The jury is excited to see the quick uptake of data science and AI in the market, resulting in many innovations reducing energy, water and nutrient use in greenhouses.”
