Boskoop’s Royal Horticulture Society to present Best in Show Awards at Groen-Direkt’s Summer Days

Boskoop’s Royal Horticulture Society (KVBC) will reveal the Groen-Direkt Summer Days Best in Show Award winner today. Eleven new plants will battle it out to win KVBC’s coveted gold medal.

Today’s inspection by a panel of KVBC expert judges is the culmination of months of careful breeding and selection work.

KVBC will not keep contestants in much suspense, as the awards will be presented immediately after the judges have done their job.

The eleven plants vying for the highest honour include:

  • Abelia grandiflora’ Jelly Beans’ – Van Vliet New Plants
  • Agapanthus ‘DWAGHYB05’ (EVERPANTHUS SPARKLE) – Hoogeveen Plants B.V. & Leybaert bvba
  • Astilbe japonica ‘Luna’ – Compass Plants B.V. together with Hans van der Meer Potplanten
  • Astilbe simplicifolia’ Pretty in Pink’ – Compass Plants B.V. together with Hans van der Meer Potplanten
  • Gazania ‘DWGZHY01’ (SUNCARPET) – Roots & Plantipp BV
  • Hydrangea macrophylla ‘HORE9103’ (DOPPIO ROSATO) – Lendert de Vos b.v., Reeuwijk
  • Hydrangea macrophylla ‘HORE9306’ (DOPPIO AZZURRO) – Lendert de Vos b.v., Reeuwijk
  • Hydrangea macrophylla ‘HORE9311’ (DOPPIO FREDO) – Lendert de Vos b.v., Reeuwijk
  • Lavandula intermedia ‘Tesseract’ (SENSATIONAL!) – Handelskwekerij G. Hoogenraad BV & Plantipp BV
  • Nepeta ‘Bocombsky’ (MAGICAL MR. BLUE SKY) – Kolster BV
  • Ugni molinae ‘PI16’ (PRETTY BERRY) – FlorAmor

June is the perfect time for assessing plants as they are now in tip-top condition.

The independent KVBC jury will inspect the plants, with overall aesthetic appeal, colour, plant habit, and flowering time being important criteria. Plant health is also an important criterion.
