Flower auction Plantion will begin work on a €7.7 million new processing facility in October

EDE, Netherlands: Dutch-based flower auction Plantion is to expand its business with the development of a €7.7 million processing facility and the creation of 24/7 operations.

In October work will begin on a 6,250 m2 ‘multifunctional’ building extension at Plantion’s headquarters in Ede, Netherlands. The facility encompassing supply, cooling/storing, packing, labelling and transportation service under one roof will offer a seamless service for Plantion’s customers. Also, the new building will accommodate the auction’s expanding presence in the digital world.

On 8 June, Plantion’s members voted unanimously to approve the development, which is a vital  paragraph of the auction’s three-year strategic plan, presented in February. Chairman René Willemsen and managing director André van Kruijssen took time to thank their colleagues for their efforts in creating and developing the plan and the trust and confidence it has gained among members.

Following record turnover of €114.5 million in 2021 (an increase of nine per cent on 2020), Plantion has made a flying start in 2022. The aim is to increase turnover by a further ten per cent this year, partly through the acquisition of new customers and through robust growth in digital transactions. However, with cost increases in mind, potential geopolitical developments and the after-effects of the Covid-19 pandemic, Plantion is estimating growth of seven per cent.

Plantion’s new processing facility is scheduled for completion in July 2023.
