A new Youth Award for the 2024 edition of the AIPH World Green City Awards was announced by the International Association of Horticultural Producers (AIPH) and the Global Youth Biodiversity Network (GYBN) on 6th December 2022 at the Youth Summit in Montréal ahead of the 15th Conference of the Parties (COP 15) to the UN Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD).
AIPH, GYBN, and Partners of the AIPH World Green City Awards are proud to announce the call for applications for the Youth Jury who will select the three finalists and the winner of the AIPH Youth Award in the AIPH World Green City Awards 2024.
Applications open on 1st September 2023 and close on 29th September 2023. All eligible applicants are invited to apply.
What is the AIPH Youth Award?
The AIPH Youth Award winner will be decided by a new Youth Jury, whose compilation will be led by GYBN. The AIPH Youth Award is not a category – instead, all entries that are selected as finalists in each of the seven categories will be eligible for this Award. The AIPH Youth Award will be presented at the 2024 Awards ceremony alongside the AIPH World Green City Awards 2024 Category Winners and is envisaged to be an integral part of each future edition going forward.
How do you apply to be a Member of the Youth Jury?
To apply, simply complete the application form before the 29th September 2023.
This form is to be completed by all applicants who would like to express their interest in being considered for inclusion as a member of the prestigious Youth Jury. Please complete this form if you meet the eligibility criteria below and are available to participate as described below during the relevant timeframes and fulfil the requirements for Youth Jurors.
*NB: This is a voluntary role for which no payment is offered. The Youth Jury will be promoted on the AIPH website and in associated media announcements.
Who can Apply?
All youth with a passion for building greener, healthier, & more resilient cities are invited to apply, provided they meet the eligibility criteria. Applicants should:
- Be between the age of 18 and 35.
- Be actively working in the green city space in some relevant capacity and/or have a working technical background/knowledge in themes related to cities, plants, nature, and nature-oriented approaches to city design and operation and knowledge and experience in work related to more than one of the 7 categories for the AIPH World Green City Awards 2024.
How will the Youth Jury be Selected?
GYBN will assess the applications received against a set of selection criteria and will present a shortlist of applicants to AIPH. AIPH and GYBN will then jointly select the final 12-15 members who will comprise the Youth Jury. All successful applicants will be informed in October 2023. Diversity in gender, race, age, thematic focus, and geographical spread will be considered in the Youth Jury selection process.
What Will the Youth Jury Do?
The Youth Jury will select from the 21 finalists in the AIPH World Green City Awards 2024 the top entry most likely to inspire the youth and fulfil their needs for a secure, healthy future. The Youth Jury will assess the 21 finalist entries and select a shortlist of three entries and the winner of the AIPH Youth Award. It is envisaged that the Youth Jury will comprise 12-15 members, all of whom will need to:
- Commit to undertake an independent assessment of the 500-word summaries and 100-word motivations submitted by the 21 entries that are selected as finalists in the AIPH World Green City Awards. Youth Jury member will also be required to review full entry content of the three entries which are shortlisted for the AIPH Youth Award (to be undertaken in March/April 2024).
- Commit to attend an initial online briefing meeting at the end of February 2024, and two subsequent online meetings of the Youth Jury to select the finalists and winner of the AIPH Youth Award in April/May 2024.
