ALTENA, Netherlands: Construction of a new home for young plant producer Schneider began on Thursday 4 June 2020 with a ceremony during which Altena’s counsellor, Matthijs van Oosten ‘ceremonially watered’ one of the latest breeding breakthroughs in petunias: Danziger’s Petunia Galaxy Lilac. In 2021, this new Petunia will be among a host of other seed-raised and cutting-raised young plants that will be grown in Schneider’s modern greenhouse complex in Altena.
Over the next few months, Schneider new headquarters will gradually take shape. Greenhouse constructor KG Systems has finished soil preparations and now is ready to see the greenhouse construction actually going up.
Located around 40kms east of Schneider’s current headquarters in Ridderkerk, the new location will boast several sustainable innovations with the greenhouse divided into different climate zones for young plant production and designed for the use of the latest benching technology.
Schneider Altena will rise from what was once a derelict and abandoned chrysanthemum nursery. The old property now has been completely demolished to make room for a brand-new complex.
Schneider Altena is scheduled for completion in November this year.
Drone video: a great deal of planning and soil preparation has gone into the site.
