Asocolflores celebrates its 50th anniversary in grand style

Colombia’s floriculture industry’s unified, respected voice, Asocolflores, celebrated its 50th anniversary in sensational style.

On Thursday, 28 September, Asocolflores, together with its members, allies, former ambassadors, and friends, convened at the theatre Julio Mario Santo Domingo in Bogotá.

Guests first attended the performance of ‘Carmina Burana’ by Carl Orff and then a reception as a remembrance of 50 milestones of Asocolflores that have marked the history of Colombian floriculture.

At the event, four founders that were present were recognised: John Vaughan, Ricardo Valenzuela, Thomas Kehler and Francisco Bazzani, the first manager of Asocolflores.

Augusto Solano, president of Asocolflores, highlighted the milestones of these five decades where Asocolflores has promoted responsible, inclusive, and sustainable floriculture, as well as gained a place within the leadership of the floral industry and Colombia an outstanding position in the international market as the leading flower supplier to the United States and the second largest world exporter of flowers, reaching more than 100 countries.

At the end, attendees raised their glasses in a toast for the first 50 years of Asocolflores and the years to come.
