Signify Signs New Horticulture LED Partnership Agreement with Seiwa in Japan

TOKYO, Japan: Signify (Euronext: LIGHT), the world leader in lighting, today announced that it signed Seiwa Co Ltd as new horticulture LED partner in Japan. Seiwa is an experienced specialist in equipment and specialized supplies for horticulture from the Tochigi prefecture in Japan. The partnership extends the two companies’ collaboration on the Tomato Park project, where Seiwa installed Philips GreenPower LED interlighting and where they demonstrate the added value of lighting for tomato greenhouses in Japan.

“We have come to know Seiwa as an experienced and innovative company in horticulture in Japan, which is customer centric and focuses on optimizing growth of the crop,” said Udo van Slooten, Business Leader Horticulture at Signify. “In our partnership with Seiwa we will be able to offer local support and opportunity to the Japanese market.”

Signify and Seiwa have been working together on the Tomato Park project in recent years, which is an advanced technology compartment in a 1.8 ha tomato greenhouse in Japan. Here, Seiwa set itself the challenge to achieve Japan’s highest tomato production yields which it realized in a few years with Philips LED interlighting.

Signify became the new company name of Philips Lighting as of May 16, 2018. The legal name of Signify will be adapted in Japan in the beginning of 2019.
