MOERKAPELLE, Netherlands: Dutch potted plant grower will benefit from a fully automated production line at their at their latest business expansion.

Being raised in a grower’s family and dealing with a variety of crops, Nico and his wife Elly van den Berg founded their own greenhouse operation, Montis, in 1987. In 2011, third generation Niels joined the family business and they acquired the Oogstpad location.  Operating from two different sites – Montis Moerkapelle BV and Montis Zuidplas BV – the greenhouse business grows a variety of crops.

Montis Moerkapelle grows predominantly Calathea Crocata, Campanula Addenda, Portulacca and Helleborus Niger ‘Christmas Carol’®, while Montis Zuidplas focuses on the production of seasonal crops such as Campanula ‘Addenda’®, Ranunculus, Aster, Helleborus Niger ‘Christmas Carol’® and Oriëntalis ‘Vive Victoria’.

In 2017, they expanded their business by adding Oogstpad 12 to their business, including a propagation unit for Helleborus. Earlier this year, Montis acquired a greenhouse operation at Van Hasseltweg 13 in Moerkapelle.

In the early 2000’s Montis installed its first WPS system. Over the years , they have added several WPS solutions at their multiple locations for automating their crop handlings. For their newly acquired Van Hasseltweg location, Montis again has chosen for WPS. The WPS SmartFlo system will automate moving and spacing plants in the greenhouse.  The system will include a WPS SmartScan and a sorting and shipping buffer section to efficiently preselect plants for shipping orders.
