First Garden Kalanchoes to arrive at Dutch flower auction

BERSCHENHOEK, Netherlands: The first Garden Kalanchoes will be auctioned off in the Netherlands this week to be subsequently planted in flower borders and patio pots across Europe.

Traditionally the Dutch Garden Kalanchoe season runs from Mid May to Mid September with plants sold via the auction clock or pre sales. Dutch growers have joined forces to present their wholesale customers with a broad product portfolio of hassle-free, colourful garden plants, sold under the ‘Kalanchoe Garden’ brand.

Kalanchoe as a houseplant can be found everywhere in Europe. However, Kalanchoes used in flower beds or planters is something relatively new. Kalanchoe makes the ideal garden plant from mid-May to mid-September when the threat of frost is passed. Kalanchoe thrive well in shade, partial shade, but can even handle full sun.

Kalanchoe growers are putting extra marketing muscle behind their plants. 23 breeders and growers from Holland, Belgium, Germany and Denmark joined forces to roll out an impressive ‘Always Kalanchoe’ marketing campaign,  supported by Royal FloraHolland.

Greenhouse sector body LTO Glaskracht Nederland has a coordinating role while Sense marketing & more is responsible for the campaign.
