Following in the footsteps of Dutch-based rose growers Bernhard Roses, Holla Roses, and Van den Berg RoseS, Kenyan rose grower Nini by Herburg Roses began selling its entire ‘auction range’ through Online Flower Auction (OFA) on 9 December 2022.

Following in the footsteps of Dutch-based rose growers Bernhard Roses, Holla Roses, and Van den Berg RoseS, Kenyan rose grower Nini by Herburg Roses will begin selling its entire ‘auction range’ through Online Flower Auction (OFA) effective 9 December 2022. At the same time, Nini will continue to sell freshly-cut roses to mass-market retailers in the EU, the UK, and Japan.

Situated on the southern shores of Lake Naivasha, Nini is a division of Herburg Group, which purchased the company in 2021. Nini consists of two adjacent rose farms: Nini Limited and Lamorna, which grow approximately 125 million stems per year on a combined greenhouse area spanning 60ha.

More recently, the rose farm announced a significant expansion, which, according to Philip Veys general manager Nini and Herburg roses, “allows to even better serve retail customers and traditional, auction-based wholesalers “

Varieties up for auctioning through OFA include ‘Snowstorm’, ‘Athena’, ‘Athena Royal’, ‘Pink Athena’, ‘Patz’, ‘Lovely Jewel’, ‘Royal Jewel’ and ‘Furiosa’. Stem lengths predominantly come in 40-50-60 cm. Nini has plans to launch several exciting new varieties soon.

In November 2017, Nini scooped up the coveted Dutch Flower Award in the category of International Grower. Nini is a Kenya Flower Council Silver Award recipient and is MPS SQ, MPS GAP, MPS ABC, Fair Trade, Global GAP and GRASP-certified.

Marco van der Burg, managing director of Nini and Herburg Roses, says, “We believe in the potential and opportunities offered by digital platforms, which is why we opted for OFA, a innovative and sustainabale marketing concept as it will reduce transportation within the supply chain.”

“Moreover, partnering with OFA offers a perfect chance to make our product offer exclusively available to OFA buyers,” concludes Veys.
