The German city of Ellerhoop will host the 12th edition of Baumschultechnik from August 29-30, 2019.
Location, location, location! There can be no better place to organise a European trade fair for plant technologies and equipment than Ellerhoop, a city 25 km north-west of Hamburg and located in the state of Schleswig-Holstein, the northernmost part of Germany and known for being the country’s epicentre of nursery stock production.
Established in 1958, Baumschultechnik started as a local open house event, which for a long time took place at a number of nursery stock companies in the Pinneberg region. Now in its 12th edition, Baumschultechnik has become an important fixture in the calendar of those active in the international world of nursery stock.
Baumschultechnik is an important international meeting point – a must see for those who want to be updated on the latest plant technologies and equipment used for the commercial production of shrubs, trees, perennials and Christmas trees.
The fair also gives a great opportunity to get an overview of what is grown (and how) in the nurseries of Schleswig-Holstein – the land famous for the volume, diversity and quality of the hardy nursery stock production.
Schleswig-Holstein is the German state with the country’s biggest area of nursery stock production (and one of the biggest in Europe), covering 4000 ha of nurseries, owned by approximately 300 growers. The Pinneberg takes pride for having a long tradition in nursery stock production, dating back to the 18th century. Pinneberg nurseries stand out for their wide assortment of ornamental shrubs, trees, perennials and include well-known brand names such as Kordes Jungpflanzen, Rosen Tantau, W. Kordes’ Söhne, Hachmann Baumschulen and Lorenz von Ehren GmbH. No wonder that the motto for the 2019 edition of Baumschltechnik is: ‘Innovation meets tradition’.
The trade exhibition is organised every 5 – 6 years – the perfect frequency to provide visitors with enough technological innovations and developments, according to the organisers. Baumschultechnik offers a wide range of machinery and devices and includes field demonstrations of equipment (a special area for field demonstrations is already prepared and planted with hardy nursery stock spaced at 50, 100 and 250 cm).
The exhibition will feature approximately 300 exhibitors and is set to take place at the Horticulture Centre (Gartenbauzentrum) in Ellerhoop, which has been the venue for the fair since 2006. It guarantees free parking and international reception. The main groups of products will comprise: tractors, GPS controlled systems, trimmers, soil care equipment, planting and potting machines, irrigation systems, fertilising machines, devices for plant protection and plant lifting, digging as well as bundling machines, transport units, equipment for packing, greenhouses, office organisation. Among novelties, one will be able to find, for example, new developments for mechanical weed control, self-steering systems for tractors, use of drones, automatic grading machines for seedlings as well as other robots. For the first time this year, Christmas tree growers and suppliers of the machinery for them will get the chance to exhibit too.
True to tradition, Baumschultechnik will publish a detailed catalogue including full descriptions of all exhibits offered. This technical reference book consists of about 300 pages (available in German only). Schleswig-Holstein-based growers will also present their plants and give presentations on the latest knowledge in nursery stock production.
Alongside the fair, from August 29th to September 5th (for 8 long days) – they will have “open days” for an expected 6000-8000 visitors from all over the world, including Japanese, American and Canadian guests. The event, which will accompany “Baumschultechnik” for the first time is called: Florum – Holsteiner Baumschultage (Days of Schleswig-Holstein’s Nurserystock).
Baumschultechnik 2019” will also coincide with the celebration of the 200th “birthday” of Hermann Meyer KG. This company, with the headquarters in Rellingen (around 10 km south of Ellerhoop), is said to be the number one European supplier of different means of production for the hardy nursery stock industry.
