Agapanthus orientalis ‘Black Jack’ wins the Visitor Vote at HTA National Plant Show

Allensmore’s and Fairweather’s Hilltop Nursery’s Agapanthus ‘Black Jack’ has won the Visitor Vote at the HTA National Plant Show 2023 at the NAEC, Stoneleigh.

Agapanthus orientalis ‘Black Jack’, which won Best in Category in Herbaceous Perennials at the show’s  New Plant Awards on 20 June, was dually recognised by winning the Visitor Vote announced one day later.

Suitable for pots and beds. Its inky buds open to reveal intense violet, black rounded flower heads, packed densely with individual florets, and dark vigorous evergreen leaves.

Geoff Caesar, Director at Allensmore commented “It was fantastic for Agapanthus ‘Black Jack’ to pick up the RHS Plant of the Year 2023 at RHS Chelsea Flower Show last month, and the Herbaceous Perennial Best in Category at HTA’s National Plant Show yesterday, and now the Visitor Vote at the show. I’m looking forward to continuing to work with breeders Fairweather’s Hilltop Nursery, and there will be lots more exciting new Agapanthus to come.”

HTA President Alan Down commented “I was thrilled when Agapanthus ‘Black Jack’ won an award at RHS Chelsea and rushed straight out to buy one, and it is just starting to flower in my garden. It will have a long flowering season and a good shelf life in garden centres. I am especially taken with the rich dark colour and flower head packed with massive flowers. It’s clear to see why the visitors at HTA National Plant Show voted for it.”
