Expo 2024 Chengdu | Preparations

Progress is being made in the preparations for Expo 2024 Chengdu

The construction of the Chengdu 2024 International Horticultural Expo’s main arena is progressing rapidly amidst the busy choreography of construction workers and vehicles. In recent days, the primary and secondary garden roads have been merged to create an unobstructed thoroughfare, which will help accelerate the construction process. This new “acceleration lane” will allow for the seamless movement of materials and equipment while expediting the forthcoming construction activities.

The Executive Committee of the 2024 Chengdu International Horticultural Expo held a virtual conference on 25 August to provide an update on the preparations and progress for AIPH’s association member, the China Flower Association.

The 2024 Chengdu Expo Park has five single buildings as its core:
1. Comprehensive Service Hall
2. Main Exhibition Hall
3. Scattered Flower Building
4. Botanical Hall
5. Tianfu Habitat Hall

As of now, the main construction work of each building has been completed. Currently, the project has entered the stage of decoration and construction. The decoration work is expected to be completed by the end of November, and the acceptance will be finished by the end of December.

One hundred fifteen pavilions have been confirmed for the Expo’s main venue. The China Flower Association praised the organiser’s impressive achievement.

Pavilions from Shanghai, Yinchuan, Ningbo, Nanjing, and Lanzhou have already commenced construction. The remaining self-built pavilions are scheduled to complete their construction by 9 October. They are currently fully engaged in refining these designs and preparing for construction.

Venue construction is accelerating with the imminent opening of the International Horticultural Expo on 26 April 2024. Construction is entering the equipment installation phase and interior and exterior decorative work. Public areas within the main venue of the Chengdu International Horticultural Expo are estimated to be around 70% complete, while peripheral infrastructure development is at approximately 65%.

The embankment of the Jiangxi River and the construction of three river-spanning bridges have been successfully finalised. Among the sub-venues, Xinjin is fully completed, while Wengjiang’s construction is 90% finished. Progress on Pidu and Qionglai has exceeded 65%.
