Embracing the Park City Dream with International Horticultural Expo 

Chengdu, Sichuan Province, is the largest city in western China, a world-famous gastronomy city and the giant panda’s hometown. Three hundred ten pandas are living happily in Chengdu. People started to nurture flowers and trees as early as 2000 years ago. Chengdu has also China’s earliest flower market.

In February 2018, President Xi Jinping visited Chengdu. His observations opened a new chapter for Chengdu to build itself as a park city. He pointed out that the striving features of a park city and its ecological value should be fully reflected in Chengdu’s city planning and construction.

Chengdu’s ecological environment has been improving by the day, and now an increasing number of parks, greenways, and ecological designed landscapes are bringing nature to the doorsteps of Chengdu’s citizens. The green and low-carbon lifestyle has been accepted by more and more people, with a delicate balance of city life, production and the environment and of man and nature.

On July 5, 2022, the People’s Government of Chengdu City officially signed the agreement and acquired the official authorisation to host the International Horticultural Exhibition 2024 Chengdu. From April 26 to October 28, 2024, the Expo will be in the main venue of Chengdu Eastern New Area and four other sub-venues.

There will be indoor exhibitions of all kinds, academic exchanges, horticultural and gardening contests, cultural and art events, business activities and plenty of education programs for children.
The theme of the Expo 2024 Chengdu is “Park City, Beautiful Habitat”.

Embracing the concepts of green, low-carbon, energy saving, sustainability, sharing and inclusiveness, Chengdu will fully utilise its sound natural environment for plants and reserve the existing vegetation to create diversified plant communities and landscapes. Pavilions and buildings will continue their services after the Expo 2024 Chengdu to offer citizens a high quality of life.

Chengdu attaches great importance to the Expo 2024 Chengdu. As we reach the end of 2022, we are currently Milestone Planning for the preparation and expediting of the construction of the main venue and sub-venues.

In 2024, the eco-friendly buildings and plant landscapes of diversified styles and complete functions will help present the charm of the park city to the whole world.

Chengdu has sent invitations to over 100 cities, businesses, universities and organisations in China and overseas to participate in the Expo and share their green developments for a green life.

We have received replies from over 50 cities expressing interest in participating. More and more exhibitors will join us successively. One-on-one exhibition services will be provided to them in Chengdu during the Expo.

The Expo organisers recently ran a competition asking the public for their creative ideas on the design of an emblem, flower, song, mascot and slogan for Expo 2024 Chengdu. More than 2,000 entries were submitted. The winners will be announced soon.

Expo 2024 Chengdu will present a beautiful symphony of the harmonious coexistence of man and nature and paint a new picture of the glorious park city life in Chengdu.
