Theme: Garden of Civilization
International Association of Horticultural Producers (AIPH) and Expo 2021 Hatay, which has its preparations with the main theme of “Garden of Civilizations” have made a decision to change the opening date of the organisation after evaluating the situation regarding the impact of Covid-19.
Due to the adverse conditions caused by the new wave of Covid 19 in the World and in Turkey, the new opening date of the event will be 1st April 2022, taking into account especially the difficulties of international participation. The Expo will now be a three-month event and run until 30th June 2022.
Thanks to the new opening date, Expo 2021 Hatay will take place with the highest possible participation without being affected by the adverse weather conditions during the winter months, and therefore it will be possible for the Hatay economy to benefit from this international event at an optimum level.
Commenting on the date change, Hatay Metropolitan Municipality Mayor, Dr Lütfü Savaş says, “The Covid-19 pandemic continues to affect life negatively in Turkey and in many countries in the world. The primary purpose of this decision, which we have taken in consultation with AIPH, is to minimize the risk to the health and safety of participants and visitors by ensuring that the Expo 2021 Hatay organisation will be held in a period when the impact of the global pandemic will subside.
As a result, we consider this change, which we define as the joy of spring at the Expo, as an opportunity to host a beautiful and unforgettable Expo and we will use the time until April 1, 2022, to make Expo 2021 Hatay much more successful.
In this way, we will create a chance for our visitors to discover the beauties of Hatay in the spring and summer months and to visit our city again and again. I would like to thank AIPH for all their cooperation and support in this process.
AIPH Secretary General Tim Briercliffe wished Hatay success, saying that he hopes the change in the opening date of Expo 2021 Hatay will result in an even more successful Expo.
