Located in the heart of Europe’s nursery sector in Hazerswoude/Boskoop, PLANTARIUM|GROEN-Direkt is the leading European garden plant retail and wholesale event. This unique trade fair, held twice a year, offers an unparalleled platform for growers, retailers, wholesalers, and garden centres to meet, discover the latest products and innovations, and form and strengthen essential trade relationships. It also plays a crucial role in the purchasing season for garden plants.
AIPH has approved this trade show. With hundreds of exhibitors and thousands of international visitors, PLANTARIUM|GROEN-Direkt offers a broad spectrum of opportunities. Visitors discover new plant species, products, and innovative point of sale (POS) concepts and can purchase directly from the five thousand sample lots from five hundred growers at the adjacent Groen-Direkt sample fair. This makes the fair the place to be for the latest trends and developments in the garden plant sector, with a diverse range of exhibitors to explore.
Extensive Offer
PLANTARIUM|GROEN-Direkt is known for its extensive offer that meets the needs of both retail and wholesale. Visitors can expect a diversity of exhibitors, from large international names to small, specialised niche growers, offering a wide range of products and services. The fair plays a crucial role in the purchasing season for garden plants.
During the upcoming edition of PLANTARIUM|GROEN-Direkt, several new exhibitors will present their companies and products.
One of the new exhibitors is Biological Youngplants from Poeldijk (NL). As the name suggests, the company specialises in the cultivation of organic young plants. “Our customers are primarily retail-supplying growers in the Netherlands, Belgium, Germany, Austria, Switzerland, and Scandinavia. What is unique about our company is that the mother plants are located on the same site as where our young plants are grown. This allows us to guarantee a residue-free product,” says owner Wim van Marrewijk. In addition to herbs, the company also has perennials and related crops in its assortment. “At the fair, we present our organically certified starting material of native perennials and a concept to market these plants. We offer gardeners and garden centres a response to signals we’ve received that there is a shortage of certified native perennials in the context of biodiversity. We expect a lot of interest from gardeners, garden centres, and growers for this new concept.”
The name ‘Bruno Nebelung GmbH’ might not ring a bell for everyone, but one of their brands, Kiepenkerl, likely will. Despite its German-sounding name, the company is very strong internationally. It supplies seeds, bulbs, and plants to retailers, growers, and landscapers all over Europe. Many of its products are language-independent or available in multiple languages.
Eike Jöddicke, product manager at Bruno Nebelung, says: “At the fair, we will showcase seeds and bulbs, as well as our themed tables with vegetable plants. We chose PLANTRIUM|GROEN-Direkt because we expect to meet garden centre and retail chain buyers here. The fair’s focus on garden plants and retail greatly appeals to us.”
Baumschule Wil Swinkels from Geldern (D) will be present with a large premium stand. “We would like to give our product, Euonymus japonicus ‘GREEN WONDER’, some more attention. This product is still relatively new to the market and is an ideal alternative to, for example, Buxus.
GREEN WONDER is easy to prune and maintain in shape, ideal for hedge planting, hardy, and very low maintenance. The plant is not affected by Buxus moths or fungi, is very strong, and can be planted in virtually any soil type without problems. GREEN WONDER is exclusively grown by our company. In our stand, we present this Euonymus in various shapes and sizes, from ball shapes and pyramids to small shrubs for hedge planting. We have developed a beautiful image label, posters, and container banners to give the product more attention on the sales floor. This way, we show the end customer that this is not a Buxus and what the plant is suitable for,” says Danny Swinkels.
Focus on Innovations
Besides trade, PLANTARIUM|GROEN-Direkt stands out for the introduction of new products and the emphasis on innovations. A highlight of each edition is the Green Retail Awards, which showcase the most innovative, sustainable, and market-changing products and concepts. Participants and visitors gain unique insights into future trends and developments. An overview of the entries can be found on the website. Additionally, there is the Green Future Hub, a special segment of the fair that highlights a current theme each year. For the autumn edition, the theme is certification. Visitors can engage with experts and pioneers in the sector.
