Merchandise Partnerships Open for World Horticultural Exhibition Yokohama 2027 Japan

The organising committee for the World Horticultural Exhibition Yokohama 2027 Japan (GREEN×EXPO 2027), officially approved by AIPH in 2019, has opened applications for businesses to licence and produce official merchandise. The announcement, made on 9 December 2024, invites domestic and international businesses with the opportunity to create products featuring the Expo’s official logo and mascot, “Tunku Tunku”.

The International Horticultural Expo, which will take place from 19 March to 26 September 2027, will be held at the former Kamiseya Communication Facility, which spans 100 hectares in Yokohama’s Asahi and Seya Wards. With the theme “Scenery of the Future for Happiness,” the Expo is expected to attract 15 million visitors and participation from 80 countries. It will strengthen international ties and emphasise the role of horticulture in addressing global environmental challenges. The event will also showcase advanced technologies for decarbonisation and innovative solutions for sustainable urban living.

Licensing Opportunities and Framework

The GREEN×EXPO 2027 organiser is opening this opportunity for companies to produce a wide range of merchandise, including apparel, food items, stuffed toys, and household goods. These products will be key in promoting the Expo, with the official mascot, Tunku Tunku, and logo as its symbols.

The licensing framework is supported by a master agreement through a joint venture between Itochu Corporation and Itochu Fashion System, which will handle intellectual property management and provide guidance to businesses engaging with this initiative.

Businesses wishing to participate must apply for a licence and agree to pay a six per cent royalty on the retail price of the merchandise, with fees varying by product type and branding use. All sales will be conducted through pre-approved distribution channels to ensure quality and consistency.
