Mascot Tunku Tunku Debuts at TICAD9 Welcome Reception

The International Horticultural Expo 2027 Yokohama, Japan, an A1 International Horticultural Exhibition approved by AIPH, introduced its official mascot Tunku Tunku to the international stage at the TICAD9 Welcome Reception on 20 August 2025.

The official mascot of Expo 2027 Yokohama (GREEN×EXPO 2027), Tunku Tunku, made its first public appearance in costume during TICAD9 in Yokohama.

The reception was co-hosted by ISHIBA Shigeru, Prime Minister of Japan, and YAMANAKA Takeharu, Mayor of Yokohama, to welcome heads of state and representatives of international organisations attending the 9th Tokyo International Conference on African Development (TICAD9). In a symbolic moment, Tunku Tunku appeared on stage in full costume for the first time, alongside Myaku-Myaku, the official mascot of the Expo 2025 Osaka-Kansai. This marked the first meeting between the mascots of two World Expos, representing a bridge between the Osaka 2025 and Yokohama 2027 events.

The unveiling of Tunku Tunku in costume highlighted the Expo’s public identity and added a cultural dimension to its promotional activities at TICAD9. The Japan Association for the International Horticultural Expo 2027 (GREEN×EXPO Association) confirmed that collaborative merchandise featuring both mascots is also being planned.

As the body responsible for approving A1 International Horticultural Exhibitions, AIPH recognises the importance of Expo 2027 Yokohama (GREEN×EXPO 2027) in showcasing not only horticulture and landscapes but also cultural exchange and public engagement.
