AIPH delegates from around the world arrived in Chiang Rai for the highly anticipated AIPH Spring Meeting 2025, immersing themselves in Thailand’s rich horticultural and cultural heritage. Against the stunning backdrop of Mae Fah Luang Art and Culture Park, the event began with an evening of celebration, collaboration, and shared passion for green cities.
Before the Welcome Night, delegates explored the vibrant Chiang Mai Flower Festival, a spectacular showcase of Thailand’s floricultural expertise. With its dazzling floral displays, intricately adorned floats, and an explosion of tropical blooms, the festival provided inspiration and insight into Thailand’s dedication to green urban spaces and ornamental horticulture.


The Welcome Night set the tone for the event, offering a warm reception to delegates from across the world. Guests were immersed in Thailand’s rich heritage as the hosts shared their culture through traditional performances and authentic cuisine. Underneath the stars at Mae Fah Luang, attendees enjoyed a feast of traditional Thai delicacies, symbolising the spirit of unity and global partnership that defines AIPH’s mission.
Prominent Thai representatives also addressed the gathering, highlighting the nation’s commitment to advancing horticulture and sustainable urban development. Mr. Chiruit Isarangkun Na Ayuthaya, President of the Thailand Convention and Exhibition Bureau (TCEB), underscored the importance of international collaboration in promoting green cities. Mr. Charin Thongsuk, Governor of Chiang Rai province, welcomed delegates and emphasised the province’s dedication to environmental conservation and sustainable tourism. Mr. Rapibhat Chandaradrivongs, Director-General of the Department of Agriculture at the Ministry of Agriculture and Cooperatives, reinforced Thailand’s commitment to supporting the horticultural industry and ensuring its role in future urban planning efforts.


The Mae Fah Luang Art and Culture Park, known as the largest collection of Lanna heritage artefacts in Thailand, embodies the legacy of the late Queen Mother, Her Royal Highness Princess Somdet Phra Srinagarindra Boromarajajonani. Established with the vision of preserving traditional Lanna culture, the park is a sanctuary of wooden structures, antique Buddha images, and lush botanical surroundings. This setting offered delegates an immersive experience in Thai history and environmental stewardship.


AIPH President Leonardo Capitanio delivered an inspiring address, welcoming all delegates to the Spring Meeting and expressing gratitude for Chiang Rai’s invitation to host the event. He highlighted AIPH’s role as the World’s Champion for the Power of Plants and praised the city’s dedication to green urban development. Recognising the importance of growers in this process, he emphasised AIPH’s commitment to supporting those who cultivate the green spaces that shape sustainable cities.


Mr Capitanio also congratulated Chiang Rai on its magnificent flower festival, acknowledging its role in fostering a greater appreciation for flowers and horticulture. He extended a warm welcome to representatives from Udon Thani and Korat, commending their progress in preparing AIPH-approved International Horticultural Expos and expressing anticipation for the impact these events will have in Thailand.


Gratitude was extended to key partners who made the event possible, including the Ministry of Agriculture & Cooperatives, the Department of Agriculture, the Horticultural Science Society of Thailand, TCEB, and headline sponsor Biblo. Mr Capitanio concluded by expressing confidence that the week ahead would be filled with memorable experiences and meaningful discussions that would shape the future of global horticulture.


The Welcome Evening was marked by an atmosphere of appreciation and unity as Thailand reaffirmed its long-standing partnership with AIPH in advancing horticulture.
