The City of Logan is a vibrant and diverse city experiencing unprecedented expansion. Bubbling beneath our vision to balance growth with living green and sustainability, you find a place filled with big-hearted achievers helping each other and our city to be extraordinary.

Logan City Council (LCC) has led the way on committing to building climate change resilience across our organisation and community. This is articulated at the highest level of Council and has been included in the LCC Corporate Plan 2021-2026 which includes specific priorities and focus areas to achieve carbon neutrality by the end of 2022, respond to climate change and environmental sustainability challenges, build climate resilience across the city and deliver on our city’s vision to be “a green city full of pride, opportunity and culture”.

Since 2018, LCC has achieved great success in living green for climate change, which has included the development and implementation of the City of Logan Climate Change Resilience framework.
A few key highlights include:

  • Extensive stakeholder and community consultation and engagement including a ground breaking City Visioning process;
  • Delivery of an organizational environmental governance review and research into best practice options and bench marking/SWOT analysis of solutions;
  • Development of a Sustainability Policy, Sustainability Framework and Climate Resilience Policy;
  • Development, adoption and successful implementation of a Carbon Reduction Action Plan;
  • Successful delivery and implementation of a range of Australian first climate resilience and carbon reduction actions;
  • Development, adoption and implementation of a community led Climate Resilience Strategy and Natural Environment Strategy both with extensive community engagement;
  • Implementing strategies and successfully increasing our green canopy across the city over the last couple of years while accommodating a growth rate that is one of the highest in Australia;
  • Resilient Rivers Initiative working with our agricultural sector to deliver environmental outcomes while maximizing agricultural and economic outcomes for our local producers;
  • Establishment and leadership of a regional Climate Resilience Alliance bringing together 8 neighbouring and nearby local governments with a total community population of almost 4 million people.

As LCC reaches net zero by the end of this year, the journey for LCC is exciting with many opportunities into the future as well.  What makes this commitment and implementation extra special and unique, is that the City of Logan is one of the fastest growing areas in Australia with high population growth and development. The City of Logan also has one of the highest diversity rates in the world – with over 215 cultures represented in the city – this makes our living green for climate change journey particularly challenging, unique, significant and world leading.

Often seen as the underdog, the City of Logan has been revitalized through a positive community pride campaign, a commitment to living green, and a commitment to leading the charge on climate change resilience not just in the city, but across the region and country.
