HTA Grower of the Year Awards 2025 winners celebrated at the Barbican, joined by HTA President Will Armitage.
The HTA Grower of the Year Awards returned to London on 25 September, celebrating the UK’s growers and the businesses that drive the sector forward. The event took place at the Barbican Centre as part of the annual HTA Conference.
Hillier Nurseries Ltd claimed three titles – Blooming Marvellous Employer, Life Beyond Peat, and Plant Producer – while Greenwood Plants was named Inspirational Business, adding to its international credentials as the 2024 AIPH International Grower of the Year.

Majestic Trees also featured strongly, with Jane Poyner winning Best Staff Member and Thomas Smith crowned Young Grower under 35. As the HTA confirmed, “Young Grower winner Thomas can also enter the AIPH International Young Grower of the Year competition and fly the flag for UK environmental horticulture.” He will also benefit from a new £1,500 bursary for early-career professionals. Judge Phil Clayton praised him as “a highly skilled, versatile and motivational team member,” while Sarah Squire called him “a team player and an all-round good egg.”
The evening’s most prestigious honour, the Pearson Memorial Medal 2025, went to Natalie Boynton of Happy Plants Ltd. A co-founder of the Young People in Horticulture Association (YPHA) and an advocate for sustainable packaging, she was recognised for more than a decade of leadership and industry contributions.
Beyond the awards, the HTA unveiled Your Garden Year, a seasonal campaign designed to inspire gardeners and support retail engagement, as well as the Value of Gardens Report, the first to measure the economic, environmental, and social contributions of the UK’s 22 million private gardens.
Together, these announcements underline the role of the HTA Grower of the Year Awards as the UK’s national platform for excellence, with a pathway for winners to gain international recognition through the AIPH International Grower Of The Year 2026 Awards.
