Taking the pulse of Poland’s thriving ornamental horticulture industry at 29th Green is Life show

WARSAW, Poland: The Polish Nurserymen Association and Agencja Promocji Zieleni are pleased to announce that the 29th edition of Green is Life and its satellite Flower Expo Polska show are set to take place between 1-3 September 2022. The organisers have decided that this year’s slogan will be ‘Naturally’.

True to tradition location, the Green is Life/Flower Expo Poland show is to be staged at Warsaw’s EXPO XXI Warszawa convention centre. The 3-day event – with a strong focus on nursery stock – will  welcome more than 126 exhibitors from nine countries.

The first two days of the event are open to industry professionals only while on the last day the show is open to the large public.

One highlight of the show is the Green is Life Novelty Contest. This year, growers have submitted more than 30 new cultivars for evaluation by a panel of expert judges. Contestants will battle it out to win Green is Life’s prestigious Gold, Silver or Bronze medals.

Building on last year’s succes is Studio Green is Life which will be back this year. Live streaming from Green is Life allows the event organisers to introduce products and services to a much larger audience.

Green is Life’s top-notch educational programme will allow visitors to exchange ideas and reserach findings. The Knowledge for Trade and Producers seminar on 1 September will be looking at contemporary business models. Erwin Meier-Honegger, a top Swiss expert in retail trade, will talk about managing garden centers in the digital era. For company owners – whether involved in production or sales –the seminar on business succession, led by Paweł Nowak of the National Chamber of Succession Advisors will provide much food for thought.

The Green City Conference is set for 2 September and targets landscape architects, contractors as well as municipal officials. The conference will try to answer questions such as Are we able to minimise the interference with the established ecosystems? How do we make use of the land’s potential when designing urban greenery? How to reconcile our sense of aesthetics with the naturalness of weeds and other ‘ordinary’ plants?

Katarzyna Kobierska of the Polish Landscape Architecture Association will discuss Natural plantings based on dynamic ecosystems and the land’s potential’. The debate of experts, entitled ‘Preparation of the investment process – investor, designer, contractor’ – in which representatives of the three segments of greenery projects implementation will try to jointly diagnose the problems and challenges relating to this proces – promises to be very interesting.

The conference’s special keynote speaker is Martha Schwartz. This world-famous American landscape architect and an ardent campaigner for the use of greenery as a mitigating factor for climate change will talk about ‘Cities of the future and the urban landscape.’

Poland is a 38-million nation in which flowers are always welcome as gifts while it is also natural for Poles to choose flowers when it comes to events and special moments. Name days, for example, are celebrated in Poland rather than birthdays with flowers being a popular gift item. Thanks to its geographical position, Poland and its Green is Life show are the perfect location for business operations with substantial exposure to Poland’s nearby markets, such as the Baltic States, Ukraine, Belarus, Russia, Czech Republic, Slovakia and Hungary.

In the international trade arena, Polish grown hardy nursery stock plays an important role. Shrubs trees, perennials, climbers, heather and other plants are exported to 40 countries. Poland is also a primary importer of nursery stock products from other countries such as the Netherlands, Germany, Belgium and Italy.

One of the driving forces behind industry growth is the Polish Nurserymen Assocation  which organises the Green is Life and,  since 2016, the Flower Expo Poland show. The latter was off to a flying start initially but more recently looks a bit anemic. To date, Amigo Plants and Leybaert are one of the few Green is Life exhibitors who you can also be found at quintessential flower and plant trade shows such as Trade Fair Aalsmeer.

In the pre-corona year 2019, nearly 300 exhibitors from 10 countries and 17,000 attendees from 36 countries took part in the combined Green is Life/Flower Expo Poland trade shows.
