Stervinou is a pioneer in the development of ericaceous plants

Founded in Brest in 1944 by Pierre Stervinou, the Stervinou nursery has been in business for over 70 years. A pioneer in the development of ericaceous plants, they have the benefit of over fifty years of experience in the field.

Meticulous Selection

Their nursery is known in France and abroad primarily for its Camellia production. Every year they produce over 40,000 cuttings and grafts from the nursery’s mother plants, which have been collected from around the world.  About 200 varieties of Camellias are currently in production, representing a meticulous selection of the most attractive and disease-resistant plants.

More than 1600 Varieties

Other specialties of the nursery include Rhododendrons (100 varieties), Japanese and Chinese Azaleas, Magnolias, Hydrangeas, and a wide range of unusual shrubs & perennials, including Restios, Proteas, and Bromeliads. Customers know that when they browse the Stervinou catalogue, they are sure to find innovative and high quality plants among the 1600 varieties and species on offer.

Fifteen Hectares at Kerguelen

Production takes place on about fifteen hectares at Kerguelen in Guipronvel, a small village located in the north of Finistère, Brittany’s north-western most region. The mild climate and acid soil of this location are particularly favourable for the growth of ericaceous plants.

The nursery employs between fifteen and twenty workers year-round, who between them manage the production and shipment of thousands of plants within France and also to international customers.  Stervinou have over 10 years’ experience serving the UK market, and due to their location just across from Plymouth, are able to provide fast, direct delivery to cross-Channel customers.

Four Oaks 2018

Stervinou will be back at Four Oaks this year (Sept 4/5) on stand B59/60, and also at IPM Essen in January 2019.
