Selecta One Acquires Leading Ugandan Cutting Farm Wagagai Ltd

Selecta One, a global leader in breeding and young plant production, has announced the acquisition of Wagagai Ltd., one of the world’s largest cutting farms located on the shores of Lake Victoria in Uganda. The acquisition secures significant long-term production capacity for Selecta in East Africa while reaffirming the company’s commitment to socially and environmentally responsible horticulture. This strategic move strengthens the long-standing partnership and sets a benchmark for sustainable production here.
Founded over two decades ago, Wagagai employs more than 2,000 people and is widely recognised for its high-quality production systems and deep-rooted social impact programmes. From its on-site health clinic and employee education initiatives to its ongoing community outreach, the Ugandan farm has become a model for sustainable floricultural enterprise.

“This acquisition is more than a strategic investment – it is a continuation of shared values and a long-standing partnership,” said Per Klemm, CEO of Selecta One. “We are proud to integrate Wagagai into the Selecta family and to build on its impressive legacy of both horticultural excellence and social impact.”
The takeover marks the evolution of a trusted partnership. For more than 20 years, Wagagai has played a key role in Selecta’s production strategy. Co-founder Olav Boenders emphasised the importance of continuity and care for the local workforce: “Selecta has been a trusted partner for more than two decades. With this step, we are ensuring a stable and meaningful future for our employees and the community around the farm.”
All operations at the current site will continue under the Selecta banner, and the company has pledged a smooth transition for breeders that currently produce at Wagagai. A specific agreement has already been reached with Beekenkamp to continue the propagation of their crops at the facility in a spirit of collaboration and mutual respect.
For Selecta One, which has steadily expanded its global footprint, the acquisition adds a key location to its international production network while reinforcing its leadership in responsible supply chain management.
