The Ronald Moerings Foundation (RMF) and the All the Way EFI cycling club have donated €243,249 to the Antoni van Leeuwenhoek (AVL) Foundation to support cancer research. The generous donation of a group of 39 green professionals and cyclists will go a long way towards funding essential research into all types of cancer.
A cross section of 39 horticultural entrepreneurs including tree growers, growing media suppliers, orchid growers, horticultural suppliers and horticultural engineering companies gathered in the Antoni van Leeuwenhoek hospital in Amsterdam for a cheque presentation on Friday 15 November 2024.

Marco van Krimpen (RMF) and Pieter Heemskerk (All the Way EFI) presented Maurice van den Bosch, chairman of the AVL board a cheque in the amount of €243,249 to the Antoni van Leeuwenhoek Foundation, which will use the donation towards much needed cancer research.

Liselotte Tas of the Netherlands Cancer Institute Antoni van Leeuwenhoek welcomed the group and shed a light on the latest developments in TIL (Tumour Infiltrating Lymphocytes). This therapy is a new experimental cancer treatment and could be an option for people who don’t respond to standard immunotherapies.
Apart from its fundraising campaign, RMF in association with plant exporter Royal Lemkes advocate for more indoor gardens in hospitals, highlighting nature’s therapeutic potential.
The cheque presentation coincided with the official opening of the second phase of a lush green indoor garden near AVL’s main entrance. The garden is designed to help patients’ well-being and rehabilitation.
Ronald Moerings Foundation was nominated in memory of Ronald Moerings a grower of aquatic plants from Boskoop who together with a colleague lost his life in a tragic car accident in November 2015.
