WESTLAND, Netherlands: Synergia Capital Partners, a Netherlands-based private equity firm that recently acquired an undisclosed minority stake in Plant World is catalysing the growth of the business that previously trade under the brandname Van der Arend Tropical Plantcenter. This week, Plant World announced it is to acquire JoGrow with JowGrow’s owner John Grootscholten joining the company’s board of directors.
JoGrow is a third generation grower of tropical foliage plants and a range of garden hydrangeas. The combination with JoGrow will further enhance Plant World’s portfolio and expand the company’s reach into Europe’s ornamental plant market.
According John Grootscholten, founder and managing director of JoGrow and Plant World are the perfect fit as both companies have the same company culture, striving for the finest quality of houseplants and garden plants.
René van der Arend, founder and managing director of Plant World and Van der Arend Tropical Plantcenter (specialised in the hardy palm tree trachycarpus fortunei) sees the acquisition as an important step to realise Plant World’s growth ambitions and is delighted that an accomplished industry veteran such as John Grootscholten will join the board of directors.
Private equity firm Synergia Capital Partners is no stranger to the global horticultural scene. Previous acquistions include stakes in automation supplier Viscon and gladioli grower For Ever Gladiolen.
