PBR pioneer Ronald Korenstra dies after short illness

It is with great sadness that CIOPORA, the international association of breeders of asexually reproduced horticultural varieties, announces the passing of Ronald Korenstra, who will be remembered as a dedicated member and pioneer in the realm of plant breeder’s rights.

Ronald began his career in the plant breeding industry with the Dutch chrysanthemum breeding and propagation company Fides (now Dümmen Orange).

He became a pioneer in the industry as one of the first to specialize entirely in IP protection for plant breeders. In 1998, Ronald joined AOMB Intellectual property. Throughout his career, Ronald built a vast international network of professional relationships, many of which blossomed into true friendships.

Ronald was a dedicated CIOPORA member who participated in many AGM meetings and contributed greatly to the PBR community.

Ronald retired in 2022, after health issues urged him to step away from his beloved field.

After a brief illness, Ronald passed away on 28 June, surrounded by his family.
