Moerman Lillium, Meiland Perennials BV and Yusuke Ueta scoop up the top accolades at Floriade’s 11th Best in (Greenhouse) Show Awards

ALMERE, Netherlands: Lilium grower Moerman from De Lier, perennials grower Meiland from Hillegom, and Yusuke Ueta from Kochi, Japan, have taken the highest honours at Floriade’s 11th Best in (Greenhouse) Show Awards.

Aad van der Knaap, chairman of the Floriade judging committee, and Hermen de Graaf of Stimuflori joined forces in announcing the winners’ names on Thursday, 1 September. The pair first handed out awards in two categories: Lilium and Grasses.

Moerman Lilium scooped up Floriade’s top accolade in the category Lilium, winning Gold for its Lilium oriental ‘Roselily Samantha’.

In the category Grasses, Meiland Perennials from Hillegom took home the first prize for its Miscanthus sinensis ‘Rosi’.

Hermen de Graaf of Stimuflori presented Lilium grower Yusuke Ueta from Kochi, Japan, with the Floriade Excellence Award 2022 for Lilium nobel ‘Mimori’. This award recognises blooms with the wow factor.

Floriade’s panel of expert judges praised ‘Mimori’ for being something completely on the European marketplace. The award-winning lily features picture-perfect, same-sized blooms, making it a real attention grabber in wedding bouquets and flower arrangements.

Lilium oriental ‘Anouska’ grown by Moerman Lilium from De Lier and Chasmanthium latifolium submitted by Meiland Perennials BV from Hillegom ended ex-aequo in the Visitor Vote.

Floriade’s Lilium and Ornamental Grasses contest included 54 entries from the Netherlands and Japan.

The 11th Floriade Awards Ceremony took place in what, until 27 September, is the home of 13 alternating flower and plants shows: the Green House. The awards celebrate the high standards that have been achieved by growers worldwide who, by participating in the Floriade contests, demonstrate their commitment to quality flower and plant growing.

The next Floriade Awards Ceremony is set for 7 September, with Limonium, Dahlia, Aster and Nerine in the limelight.
