KP Holland announces strategic partnership with Westland Plant

Dutch-based houseplant growers KP Holland and Westland Plant have announced a new partnership effective 1 January 2025.

Peet Zwinkels will transfer the family business Westland Plant to the next generation, his son Niels Zwinkels. With this step, the business operations will blend into KP Holland. This cooperation marks an important step in the continuation, expansion and professionalisation of the cultivation and development of Spathiphyllum varieties.

Niels Zwinkels sees the takeover of the family business as a great opportunity, but felt the need for a business partner.  “In KP Holland, I see the ideal partner. Since we have been cultivating their varieties for years, I have come to know both the company and the people well. By collaborating and sharing knowledge, you are stronger than standing alone. I am convinced that together we can create new opportunities and strengthen each other in various areas.”

For Peet Zwinkels, this feels like the right time to hand over Westland Plant: “My wish was to continue the business while stepping back. I am incredibly proud that we can now say the company will be carried on by Niels and KP Holland.”

Joining forces results in the offering of a wide range of Spathiphyllum plants in various pot sizes, available through one address. This increase in scale allows for further professionalization and development, enabling the exploitation of new market opportunities.

Leo de Vries, managing director of KP Holland, says: “Customers retain all the strengths of Westland Plant while now also benefiting from the efficiency of centralised purchasing and services through KP Holland.”

The partnership between Westland Plant and KP Holland officially starts on January 1, 2025, with a focus on further expanding the cultivation of Spathiphyllum. In this, quality and innovation are the central goal. Westland Plant as company and production site name will continue to exist, while all Spathiphyllums grown by Westland Plant will be sold under the KP Holland brand.

Family business KP Holland, founded in 1950, strives for success for growers and trading partners. The company develops, propagates, and produces plant varieties within the product groups of Spathiphyllum, Kalanchoe, and Curcuma at six locations. Together with national and international growers and trading partners, KP Holland stands for plant excellence, aiming to create an atmospheric and healthy living environment for consumers.

Entrepreneur Peet Zwinkels started cultivating cucumbers in 1985, switching to Spathiphyllum cultivation in 1998. Boosting more than 4.5 hectares, the family business Westland Plant is the largest producer of 17cm Spathiphyllum varieties. They produce for European wholesalers, garden centers, and (non-)food retailers. Additionally, Westland Plant is a co-founder of Air So Pure. A collective of growers promoting air-purifying plants, of which KP Holland is also a member.
