Keukenhof daffodils flowering one month earlier

The countdown to the opening of the 70th edition of the world’s most famous spring gardens Keukenhof has begun. Taking Flower Power as its theme for 2019, the Keukenhof Gardens near the town of Lisse in Holland will open its gates between March 21 to May 19, 2019. Above-average February temperatures has seen the parks snowdrops, daffodils and crocuses begin to bloom.

Expectations for 2019 visitor volumes are high as next year Holland will celebrate 350 years of Rembrandt and the Golden Age and this theme is sure to attract extra visitors to the 32ha of parkland in Lisse filled with seven million tulips, daffodils and hyacinths.

Amosaic measureing 13 x 22 ms and has been created from almost 100,000 tulips, Crocuses and Muscari bulbs. Its colourful splendour will reveal itself in all its floral glory in a few weeks.

True to the theme is a giant flower bulb mosaic depicting a hippie girl from the 1960s when the song ‘San Francisco’ by Scott McKenzie invited young people to wear flowers in their hair.

When the organisers of Keukenhof welcome visitors from all corners of the world to their magnificent display of spring flowering bulbs, their biggest challenge might be breaking their own exceptional track record. Last year, Keukenhof attracted a total of 1,4 million visitors.
