Hydrangea grower Sjaak van Schie celebrates the near start of Spring with cool new varieties

Spring is around the corner – to celebrate this, Hydrangea grower Sjaak van Schie reveals cool new varieties and marketing concepts to mark the start of the new Hydrangea season.

Innovation is at the heart of the company, which collaborates with the world’s best Hydrangea breeders. The news of the moment is Hi Road and Hi Valley, two new varieties that feature spectacular colours. Hi Road produces masses of burgundy red mop head flowers. Hi Valley’s flower heads are composed of huge creamy white florets with a green tinge. As the flowers age, they gradually change into a soft pink.

Sjaak van Schie also specialises in bespoke added-value items. The company’s Hy-pe Unique brand includes varieties with the wow factor while Hy-pe Original stands for sturdy Hydrangea cultivars in a rainbow of colours, the blooming result of the combined breeding work by Sjaak van Schie and The Mastergrowers.

MPS-certified Sjaak van Schie B.V. runs plant nurseries in the Netherlands and Portugal. In Maasdijk, Netherlands, the company produces around 3 million Hydrangeas in the open. The 30-ha site in Portugal serves as a cutting farm and production location for half-finished and finished plants.

Last year, more than 200 employees, business partners, and customers of Hydrangea grower Sjaak van Schie celebrated the opening of the company’s new cold store in Pegões, Portugal, with a quintessentially Portuguese lunch on Friday, 21 October 2022.
