Germany’s Import Promotion Desk (IPD), an initiative established by the Federation of German Wholesale, Foreign Trade and Services (BGA) and sequa gGmbH, is expanding its commitment and will be flying the flag for South Africa at the IPM Essen show taking place in Essen, Germany between 28-31 January 2025.
Building on its successful participation in the Dutch IFTF show, IPD will promote Fynbos – an evergreen, hard-leaved Mediterranean type vegetation associated with the mountains of South Africa’s Cape region – at IPM Essen.
Whoever wants to offer extraordinary flower arrangements cannot do without South Africa. The south-western part of South Africa is well known for its unique flora, the Fynbos flora and the diversity of endemic plants.
The Import Promotion Desk (IPD), in association the industry association ‘Cape Flora South Africa’, will be showcasing the diversity of Fynbos in Hall 1 Stand 1D12.
The Cape region offers perfect growing conditions for the Fynbos biome. This extraordinary diversity will surprise some buyers and enrich the European cut flower offer.
The flower farms in the IPD programme are small and medium-sized enterprises that specialise in the cultivation, wild collection and breeding of Fynbos varieties, including different varieties of the King protea.
Together with the IPD company ‘34 Degree South’, IPD will be showcasing impressive King proteas, colourful Leucadendrons such as the Ayoba Jade Pearl, as well as the extraordinary flower globes of the Brunia and Berzelia varieties at the IPM. The company will also be showcasing innovative varieties such as Madiba and Red Rex, developed from the wild Protea cynaroides.
Buyers will have the opportunity to talk to representatives from ‘34 Degree South’ at the IPD stand and learn about the benefits of direct exchange and trade.
IPD has been established and implemented by sequa gGmbH – the global development organisation of German industry, and the Federation of German Wholesale, Foreign Trade and Services (BGA.). The Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ) funds the agency.
IPD is an initiative for import promotion in Germany. The agency serves as a bridge between small and medium-sized enterprises in selected emerging markets and developing countries on the one hand and European importers on the other. The objective is to integrate the partner countries into global trade, thereby contributing towards sustainable economic development in these countries.
IPD introduces exporters from its partner countries to the EU market and assists them in setting up trading relations. For European importers, the IPD opens up new supply sources in the partner countries and helps them procure specific products. IPD’s matchmaking services are free of charge.
