AALSMEER, Netherlands: Event centre Studio’s Aalsmeer was the setting for the coveted 2019 Dutch Tulip Awards, the country’s green industry version of the Oscars that honours the best growers, smartest merchandising concepts, best market introductions and the most spectacular breeding breakthroughs.
Over the past few months, a specialist jury, comprised of FloraHolland customers and business partners, has been voting for winners in four categories: cut flowers, houseplants, outdoor plants and concept. Votes were placed according to practical value, transportability, vase life and marketability. Four products from each category were put through to the final.
Here’s a complete overview of the prize winners:
Cut flowers category
Honourable mention: Alstroemeria Ardenne by Tesselaar Alstroemeria from Heerhugowaard.
Houseplants
Honourable mention: Tillandsia ‘Curly Slim’ by Stofbergen Plant Company from Bergschenhoek.
Outdoor plants
Bunnik Plants from Bleiswijk won the Dutch Tulip Award in the Outdoor Plants category for its Helianthus Funshine Multiflower. The jury stated this is “Compact and sustainably grown. An addition to the Helianthus assortment. Appealing and has the wow effect”.
Concept
Also winning a place in the spotlight was Artisan from Nieuwaal which submitted the merchandising concept Phalaenopsis Original Orchids Frame. The jury commented that this is “Original, promising, a true gift. An addition to the world of concepts”.
Honourable mention: Eco Hydrangea by Plantenkwekerij P.van Geest from Maasland.
