Ethiopian wins multiple awards for outstanding crisis leadership

ADDIS ABABA, Ethiopia: Ethiopian Cargo & Logistics Services, Africa’s leading  cargo network operator with the continent’s largest state-of-the-art cargo terminal has won multiple awards in recognition of its dedication, customer service and hard work amid Covid-19.

At the height  of the Covid-19 pandemic, Ethiopian Airlines took a pro-active approach by  converting its passenger aircraft to freighters. In times of crisis, the company took good care of its customers in perishables; Africa’s  growers of fruits, vegs and flowers. From the outset of the pandemic, Ethiopian continued to give perishable cargo priority, even if there was a huge capacity shortage due to many  airlines ceasing operations.  Ethiopian also played a  successful role in leading the fast and efficient delivery of PPEs and other medical supplies following the outbreak of COVID-19, and the company says it is ready  now to repeat the globally recognised accomplishment in the distribution of Covid-19 vaccines.

In December, Hadi Akoum, Airbus vice president sales Africa and levan customer affair presented  Ethiopian boss Tewolde Gebre Mariam with the Unique Agility and Resilience Award.  On the occasion, Akoum said that the award is a way “to express the admiration Airbus has for the unbelievable achievement of Ethiopian in this unprecedented pandemic.”

One month earlier, Ethiopian won the Overall Excellence for Outstanding Crisis Leadership 2020 Award, an initiative of the Global Finance Magazine.

Ethiopan is equally proud on the Decade of Airline Excellence Award fort he Africa region. This prestigous prize is one of the categories of the annual Airline Strategy Awards by Flight Global, the global aviation community’s primary source of news, data, insight, knowledge and expertise.

The annual awards celebrate the best airline stories from the decade prior to the current crisis – a period of high points for the industry that brought air travel to new markets and catapulted issues such as sustainability to the forefront of strategic thinking.

In October 2020, Ethiopian scoped up fourth accolade; the Best Cargo Airline – Africa award, sponsored by London-based Air Cargo News. Commenting on the award, Mr. Fitsum Abady, MD Ethiopian Cargo & Logistics Services, remarked, “We are pleased to win the ‘Best Cargo Airline – Africa ’ award at the Air Cargo News Awards 2020.
