Organisers of the 2024 Dutch Lily Days asked visitors to vote for their favourite. The results are in, and the double-flowered OT hybrid ‘Blizzard’ has been awarded the title of Best Lily in the 2024 Lily League.
Founded in 2017 by reputable flower bulb supplier Onings Holland, the Dutch Lily League, ranking the top 50 of the world’s most appreciated lily varieties, has become an important fixture in the calendar of those active in the world of lilies.
The contest was back at the recently held Dutch Lily Days, which took place between 4 and 7 June 2024. The event’s 12th edition ran at 13 lily companies across the west and northwest of Holland. It brought together a cross-section of the global lily industry.
This year’s winner, ‘Blizzard,’ is a breed of Vletter and Den Haan. The double-flowering OT hybrid features impressive snowy white flowers with soft yellow stripes down the middle.
The cultivar stands between 100 and 125 cm tall and has an upward-growing form. ‘Blizzard’ in bulb sizes 16/18 and 18/20 produces a minimum of 2-3 and 4-5 flowers, respectively.
The red OT Hybrid and 2022 Lily League winner ‘Touchstone’ from Mak Breeding, and last year’s winner, the pink and double-flowered Oriental hybrid ‘Diantha’ from Vletter&Den Haan, ended second and third respectively.
The Dutch Lily Days’ mixed audience, consisting of growers, traders, florists, and other lily aficionados, guarantees that entries are marked from different perspectives. Overall impression naturally is one of the most decisive factors.
