DOPA plant pots by Plantics confirms attendance at forthcoming IPM Essen show

Dutch-based Plantics, a manufacturer of home-compostable, plastic-free DOPA pots, has confirmed its presence at the forthcoming IPM Essen show.

Plant growers, plant traders, garden retailers, florists and other green professionals, get ready. Plantics, a producer of an innovative line of DOPA pots made from recycled paper reinforced with the company’ patented, thermoset, bio-based resin (made from agricultural by-products), has confirmed its presence at IPM Essen.

From Tuesday, 28 January to Friday 31 January, the halls of the Messe Essen convention centre in Essen, Germany will come alive as an anticipated 1,400 exhibitors, including DOPA by Plantics, showcase the very latest in plants, cut flowers, tech, production and garden accessories, and florist sundries.

DOPA pots differ from other paper/pulp-based pots because their bio-resin gives them extra strength and longevity. Extensive trialing at commercial plant producers found that DOPA pots excell in durability. Other paper-based pots which professionals have trialled in the past reacted very quickly to the outdoor environment in which they’re placed. However, DOPA pots can be placed on a terrace for months, and they still look perfect.

Gardeners can choose to plant their DOPA pot(s) (along with the plants and the growing media) directly into the soil after “cracking” the pot a bit to stimulate the plants’ roots. The DOPA pot will then gradually biodegrade into the soil.

As we step into 2025,Plantics likes to take a moment to reflect on the past year. Despite a challenging year for the industry, 2024 was a year of significant progress for Plantics. It expanded its partnerships with key players in horticulture and eco-conscious industries to bring DOPA to greenhouses, nurseries, and garden centers within the EU.

The company’s line of DOPA pots have helped reduce plastic waste while promoting healthier plants and underscore Plantics’ commitment to quality and sustainability. The company takes pride of having been among the nominees for the 2024 Royal FloraHolland Greenovation Awards.

The news for the moment is that Saint-Gobain Benelux has acquired a minority equity investment in the privately-owned Dutch company.

The collaboration will allow both companies to combine their R&D capabilities, manufacturing expertise, and market reach.

Together, Saint-Gobain and Plantics will develop innovative circular construction materials using the 100% biobased thermoset Plantics resin that supports the reduction of carbon emissions all while ensuring quality, performance, and cost-effectiveness as the demand for such products is rapidly increasing spurred by recent European legislation.

“We are thrilled to partner with Plantics, a pioneer in sustainable bio-based material technologies,” said Frank te Poel, CEO, Saint-Gobain Gypsum and Insulation Benelux. “This collaboration will accelerate our innovation efforts towards more circular, light and sustainable solutions for the construction sector.”

Wridzer Bakker, CEO of Plantics B.V., added: “We are proud and excited to team up with Saint-Gobain, a global leader in the construction industry. We look forward to combining our expertise and resources to bring new technologies to market and enhance our operational capabilities to deliver competitive and sustainable solutions to the building sector.”
