MISHMAR HASHIVA, Israel: Israel-based plant breeder and propagator Danziger is partnering with Portugese-Israeli gerbera breeder Montiplanta and tissue culture lab Rise and Shine from India, making Danziger the official and exclusive distributor of Montiplanta gerberas in the world.
The three companies which put their signatures to the agreement have deep roots in the horticulture sector, at home and abroad, and Montiplanta owners, the Yarkovi family, and the Danziger family have known each other for many years. Rise and Shine is an Indian Biotech company that acquired Montiplanta’s genetics as a part of their floriculture activities. Established 27 years ago in Portugal, Montiplanta’s main focus is on breeding gerberas.
Through this new partnership, Montiplanta can take advantage of Danziger’s strong brand recognition in the global supply chain for cut flowers, cut foliage and potted plants In turn, Danziger says it will benefit from Montiplanta’s ‘world class gerbera genetics’ – with ‘Brakedance’, ‘Livia’ and ‘Haimi’ being well-known cultivars in the industry.
Commenting on the Israeli-Portugese-Indian partnership Gaby Danziger, Danziger’s CEO and co-owner, said, “We chose to partner with Montiplanta because we believe their gerberas offer unique added value enabling growers to enjoy a higher yield while using simple practices.”
According to Montiplanta’s owner Dudu (David) Yarkoni breeding objectives includes environmental resilience, acceptable yield, pest and disease resistance, sun tolerance, heat resistance and versatility with regard to different greenhouse structures
