Counting down to 37th Plantarium

BOSKOOP, Netherlands: There is only one day to go until Boskoop’s International Trade Centre will host the 37th edition of Plantarium.

This year’s Plantarium, held in conjunction with the Danish trolley fair Groen-Direkt, is set to take place from August 21-23, 2019. True to the theme of the nursery trade fair, Green Fits All, organisers will build a show garden as part of the tiny house and tiny forest movements.

The tiny house movement, encouraging people to convert to small-scale living started in the USA to sweep gradually around the world. Residents of tiny houses are seeking a simpler, more sustainable way of living and inspired by the idea of the circular economy. In such eco-friendly environments wood is quickly becoming the building material of choice. Other common features of a tiny house include green roofs, vertical gardens and colourful borders.

Rooted in Dutch soil, the tiny forest movement encourages people to boast biodiversity by building mini forests that are no larger than tennis courts and planted with a variety of native tree species.

The main entrance of this year’s show is the departing point of the Novelty Trail which is an excellent way to discover the many novelties and new services offered by the 300+ Plantarium exhibitors. Ask for a the special Novelty Map or a multi-language to guide you around.

Now in its 37th year, Plantarium will showcase a full range of nursery stock products for the consumer market and institutional market. In addition, nursery suppliers will focus on the latest developments in technology while the show’s novelty showcase is already sure to attract huge crowds.

With Plantarium around the corner, anticipation is running high for the show’s annual awards. An advisory committee and panel of expert judges shortlisted 13 nominees across two categories:  ‘Innovation’ and ‘Concept’. The result is an impressive line-up of eight novelty plants and five plant merchandising concepts, allowing retailers to add value to their customers. Members of the horticultural media will gather as a specialist jury on August 20.  On the opening morning (August 21) Plantarium will celebrate its annual awards ceremony.https://www.floraculture.eu/news/plantarium-concept-innovation-awards-2019-shortlist-revealed/
