Celebrating 60 Years of the Lepaa Festival

Nestled amidst the tranquil landscapes of Lepaa, Finland, the prestigious Lepaa exhibition is poised to mark a significant milestone—its 60th anniversary—from August 15th to 17th, 2024. What began as a modest gathering a century ago has flourished into a premier event shaping the future of Finnish horticulture and beyond.

Rooted in tradition, Lepaa’s journey traces back to the early 20th century, when it served as a vital gathering for horticultural education and camaraderie. Officially established in 1964, the exhibition evolved from a humble two-day event to a robust four-day showcase by 1967. Over the decades, Lepaa has flourished, boasting over 160 exhibitors at its peak and drawing nearly 10,000 visitors during its zenith.

For Elina Vuori, whose journey with Lepaa spans decades, the joy lies in seeing the event thrive year after year. Despite challenges like the pandemic, which prompted a shift to an online format, Vuori remains dedicated to fostering a vibrant platform for learning and collaboration.

This landmark anniversary promises a blend of homage to its storied past and a leap into the future of horticulture. Seminars on wild plants, robotics, and sustainable solutions will ignite discussions, while a floristry competition and historical exhibits add a nostalgic touch. Notably, the Ministry of Agriculture will plant a commemorative tree, symbolising growth and sustainability.

Integral to Lepaa’s success is the steadfast support from the local community in Hattula and Hämeenlinna, the people’s involvement enriches the event’s cultural tapestry. Through community-focused initiatives and educational outreach, Lepaa continues to nurture a passion for horticulture among future generations.
