British Garden Centres teams up with the Colegrave Seabrook Foundation for National Plant Show reception

British Garden Centres is delighted to announce it is sponsoring the first-ever Colegrave Seabrook Foundation reception at the HTA National Plant Show later this month.

The UK’s largest family-run garden centre group has joined forces with the foundation to host a networking afternoon for horticultural students to mix with industry peers, gain valuable knowledge, enhance learning and gain insight as they start their blossoming careers.

With the current skill shortages in the sector and the low-employee market, attracting young people into the horticulture sector has never been more important.   The Colegrave Seabrook Foundation was set up 30 years ago to support the future of the ornamental horticultural industry in the UK by offering multiple scholarships to those who are set on a career in horticulture.  It does this by working with colleges and offering bursaries and scholarships to horticulture students.

The reception will take place after the careers seminar at the National Plant Show which will bring a useful focus to the training and development of people in the industry. Jeff Colegrave, Chair of Trustees will make a short welcome speech before attendees and employers’ network to discuss the opportunities and vibrancy of working within the sector.

Amy Stubbs, Development and Project Manager at British Garden Centres said: “We are delighted to be working with the Colegrave Seabrook Foundation on this reception which will bring the future of horticulture to the forefront.  As a family business, British Garden Centres is keen to engage with the recipients of Colegrave Seabrook scholarships and awards which has the perfect synergy with the business ethos of “Keeping Britain Growing.”

Neil Gow, Trustee at the Colegrave Seabrook Foundation said: “We’re so grateful to British Garden Centres for sponsoring this reception which will see students engaging with key figures from the industry. The session will greatly help to support horticultural students as they target careers in the UK’s ornamental industry and showcase the wide range of opportunities available to them.  Whether it is an interest in plant health, breeding, media, visual merchandising, finance, or HR, the garden industry is a vibrant sector for employment, and we are hoping the attendees will reap benefits from this occasion.”

The reception will take place on Tuesday 20th June at 3 pm in the seminar area of the show. The HTA National Plant Show takes place on the 20th and 21st of June at Stoneleigh Park.
