Dutch horticultural technology company Blue Radix has been named winner of the AgTech Breakthrough Award for Nursery Automation Solution of the Year 2025. The award, presented by AgTech Breakthrough, recognises leading innovations in agricultural and food technology worldwide.
Blue Radix received the honour for its Crop Controller system, which delivers autonomous climate and irrigation control in greenhouses. Already in use at more than 100 commercial vegetable production sites across different climate zones, Crop Controller reduces manual climate computer work by up to 80% while helping growers manage four times more hectares. The system also delivers measurable efficiency gains, including energy savings of 13–18% and water use reductions of around 10%.
Ronald Hoek, co-founder and CEO of Blue Radix, said the award reinforces the company’s mission to support growers with practical technology. “The need for efficient systems has never been greater as growers face reduced crop expertise, climate challenges and rising efficiency expectations. This recognition highlights the positive impact we’re making in growers’ daily lives and strengthens our commitment to driving lasting change in horticulture.”
Crop Controller applies AI to generate reliable three-day-ahead predictions and automate decisions in line with a grower’s chosen strategy. According to the company, this approach increases yields and profitability while freeing up valuable time for labour management, crop care, and strategic planning.
“AI isn’t replacing growers; it’s supporting them 24/7,” Hoek added.
Blue Radix sees its technology as a stepping stone toward fully autonomous, resource-efficient greenhouses. The company also won the prestigious GreenTech Innovation Award in 2024 and is continuing to expand its solutions across global horticulture markets.
