Biofungicide ASPERELLO® T34 Biocontrol™ granted label for California ornamentals

WESTERLOO, Belgium: The biofungicide, ASPERELLO® T34 Biocontrol™, has been granted a label for use in greenhouse-grown ornamentals in California. Used preventatively, it provides protection against major root diseases including Fusarium, Pythium, Phytophthora and Rhizoctonia.

“Containing the antagonistic fungus Trichoderma asperellum strain T34 – ASPERELLO® rapidly colonises plant roots forming barriers against fungal pathogens while supporting healthy roots and, therefore, plant growth,” says Veronica Cervantes, & Product Manager Biopesticides at Biobest USA.

“With the ability to grow around the roots in a wide range of crops, temperature and soil substrates, ASPERELLO® helps facilitate the absorption of several nutrients and triggers plants’ natural defense mechanisms. It also exerts a suppressive effect on soil-borne pathogens since it directly competes for space and nutrients and can also parasitize the pathogenic fungus and its survival structures in the soil medium,” she explains.

“With multiple modes of action, ASPERELLO® helps reduce the risk of resistance. Shown to outperform many conventional and biological fungicides, it is a very welcome addition to the disease control tool-box for protected-ornamental growers in California,” she concludes. Growers in other US states and in Europe have already been benefiting from excellent results using ASPERELLO® against major diseases for several years.
