France has a new minister of agriculture, food security and forestry. Annie Genevard was named France’s new agriculture minister in the government of Michel Barnier on 21 September 2024.
She succeeds Marc Fesneau and his co-minister Agnès Pannier Runacher. Genevard, born on 7 September 1956 in Audincourt in the mountaneous department of the Doubs, where she served as Morteau’s mayor between 2002-2017. She sits on the right side of the political spectrum and was a member of the RPR, UMP and, later, LR.
More than once month after her appointment she is praised for her pro active approach in addressing the many challenges France’s agriculture sector faces.
